This look says it all.
What. A. Day.
My first day of vacation was spent at the VA hospital with my dad. He hasn’t been in the best of health the past few years and he suddenly had a recurring issue worsen overnight. We fully expected him to be admitted – but was thankfully sent home on very strong antibiotics and a follow up appointment next week in Philadelphia to discuss next steps.
My dad is my rock. My hero. My daddy. Seeing him frail and in poor health completely breaks me. But he spent the day joking around and making us laugh whenever he could…with a smile on his face.
My parents have had a rough life. They are the kindest people you will ever meet and would do absolutely anything for you. Yet, it seems many times that the world is against them. I just want their remaining years to be happy and carefree.
Days like this can easily make me fall back into my old emotional eating patterns. Yet I stayed on track through it all.
And that is a small victory in itself.
This lifestyle is a journey. Not every day is going to be unicorns and rainbows. This is life – full of it’s ups and downs. How you react to it is the key.
