At the beginning of my journey, I didn’t take Rest Days. I would work out 7 days a week. I figured if I kept going and didn’t stop – I’d see results faster.
Guess what? That didn’t happen.
All I managed to do was wear myself out and actually put more stress on my body! So I forced myself to take a day off. That was a LONG day. I stressed over NOT being at the gym or going for a run. I didn’t know what to do with myself. I swear I was counting the minutes until the next day when I could return to my routine.
The next day I went back and I felt more focused. Stronger in a way. Sounds funny I know, but I did feel stronger! So the next week – I took another rest day. This time I actually enjoyed the day more. I picked up a book, sat myself down and read it. I spent more quality time with my husband and kids. I wasn’t sitting around like a slug by any means…but I wasn’t killing myself either!
I now have a Rest Day every single week. On Tuesdays. No specific reason why it’s a Tuesday – it’s just what works for me. So go ahead and take that rest day. Relax. Grab a coffee (or my favorite – unsweetened iced tea)! Go for a leisurely walk. Play with your kids. Just chill with your spouse.
Take that day for YOU. Because guess what? You deserve it!
